Tags: diamond lil, Fenuxe Magazine, Gay Atlanta We’ve said it before, if longevity counts for anything, Diamond Lil deserves a bust of her likeness in the Gay Atlanta Hall of Fame. This southern belle moved from Savannah to Atlanta in 1965 and quickly became a player in the city’s then-underground drag scene. She headlined a drag show at Mrs. P’s, tucked away in the basement of the Ponce de Leon Hotel. She moved the act to Sweet Gum Head on Cheshire Bridge Road in the early ’70s, then onto Club Centaur. These clubs have since shut down. In addition to her performances and a mid-’80s album release called The Queen of Diamonds, Diamond wrote for gay Atlanta magazines and newspapers like Sunset People, Cruise and Etc.
